The Basics

When you work for Sunshine Coast Cleaning Services, you need an ABN (this is obtained through a free online application) and you become your own business contractor, subcontracting your services to us.

There are benefits to you in becoming a subcontractor and not an employee:

• You get the full amount of your fixed clean rate, without losing withheld tax, superannuation or a Medicare levy.
• When it comes time to pay your taxes you, as a self-employed business person, get to claim many more of your daily expenses as tax deductions.
• Resort cleaning usually finishes around 2pm (or earlier) - this is check-in time and most of the rooms have to be cleaned by then. As such you have the rest of your day free to either relax or contract your services elsewhere. Unlike an employee who is often restricted to working for the one company – as a subcontractor you can sell your services to as many other people and / or companies as you have time for!

There is no experience necessary! You do not have to have experience in either owning your own business OR professional cleaning of any kind. We provide full training for all new subcontractors experienced or otherwise. We also provide you with an easy to follow Microsoft Excel invoice if you don't have your own invoicing software.

Flexible Working Hours

Resort cleaning typically starts around 8:00am to 9:30am and finishes anywhere from 11:00am to 2:30pm (3:30pm occasionally) – depending on how busy a particular resort is on any given day. This fits well with people who have school age children as you finish work before school is out – it also works for people who wish to contract their services to other entities.

As a subcontractor you can elect to work anywhere from 1 to 5 days per week (we do not subcontract people for more than 5 days per week) and you can take as many holidays as you choose whenever you choose.

Our only requirement is that you inform us of any changes to your individual working schedule as we have to allocate other subcontractors to make sure all our resorts get the cleans they need.

Tax Benefits

Being you own business, here are some basic areas you may be able to claim in:

• Computers and office equipment
• Internet costs
• Insurance on home office items
• A percentage of your phone bill
• A percentage of your car costs
• A percentage of your utilities cost
• Advertising costs (if you decide to advertise for further work opportunities)
